Long time “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek has died at the age of 80. He died after battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer. The “Jeopardy!” social media accounts shared the following statement on his passing : “Jeopardy!” spokesperson tells TMZ, “Jeopardy is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends.”

Trebek began his career in news with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in 1961 and shortly began hosting a high school game show. He would go on to host several other trivia shows before he began hosting Jeopardy. He hosted the show for 36 years and holds a Guinness World Record for the most game shows hosted by a single host.

Trebek’s last day of taping was October 29. New episodes with Trebek will air until December 25.
