B.Smith, model, television personality, author, restaurateur and lifestyle maven has died at the age of 70. Smith had been battling Alzheimer’s for seven years. Born Barbara Elaine Smith , B.Smith began her modeling career in the mid 1960’s, working in the Ebony Fashion Fair show Smith was the first African-American model to be featured on the cover of Mademoiselle magazine in 1976.

She would go on to own several successful restaurants called B.Smith, the flagship being in New York. She made several television appearances and even having her own show. Smith was also a lifestyle guru.

In 2014, Smith disclosed her Alzheimer’s diagnosis. She passed away on February 22. Smith will be known for her soulful dishes and dazzling sense of style. We send out heartfelt condolences to her loved ones.
