
Sean Plater
A graduate of The John H. Johnson School of Communications at Howard University, Sean Plater is a passionate and energetic addition to the WHUR- WORLD family. He has experience with various stations throughout the Washington, DC Area including an impressive stint as General Manager of Howard’s WHBC-AM. It was during this period that he also interned with WHUR GM, Jim Watkins and moved towards his career goals of Radio management and ownership. Sean is a Pro Tools Certified Music Operator. He serves as producer of The Mix Morning Show and other special features at WHUR-WORLD.
Brittani Riddle
Brittani Riddle is producer of The Takeover on WHUR-WORLD and is a Broadcast Assistant responsible for special programming, including the documentary series Activists and Politics. She is a native of Atlanta, Georgia. A graduate of the John H. Johnson School of Communications at Howard University, Brittani began her broadcast career as Program Director of Howard University's WHBC-830AM.
Stephen Robinson
The confident and lovable Stephen “Big Steve” Robinson, is the executive producer of “The Takeover” on WHUR-WORLD. Steve is a graduate of Howard University’s College of Arts and Sciences. In his junior year of undergraduate studies, he realized his passion for radio. That passion combined with his love of all genres of music, hip-hop in particular, encouraged Steve to pursue a career in the radio industry. Steve interned at WHUR while simultaneously doing a fun-filled stint as on-air personality and Assistant General Manager of Howard University’s student-run radio station WHBC 830 AM. Steve joined the WHUR staff full time in the Spring of 2005 as a production assistant. Steve has been able to put his degree in Education to use as he is fulfilling a role as the liaison between WHUR, WHUR-WORLD and Howard University’s John H. Johnson School of Communications. He is also a producer of other special features programmed on WHUR-WORLD including the “Legacy of a Legend” series. Steve aims to share his encouragement to the aspiring pre-professionals of this industry while attaining his personal goals.
Jessica Sturgis
Creative and confident, Jessica Sturgis is a recent graduate of the John H. Johnson School of Communications at Howard University. Jessica cultivated her interest in radio as a high school intern at the local urban radio stations in Indianapolis, Indiana. Consequently, Jessica continued her pursuit of a career in radio as an On-Air personality on WHBC 830 AM. Ultimately her drive led her to the General Manager position of WHBC 830 AM while interning under WHUR 96.3 FM’s General Manager, Jim Watkins. She currently is a Production Assistant responsible for serving as Co-producer and Board Operator of The Sighlent Storm.
Justin Thwaites
Justin Thwaites is the Producer of Black History Moments, Let’s Talk Money and other WHUR-WORLD specials—including “King Chronicles: the Man, the Myth, the Legend”. Justin started with WHUR 96.3 FM as a production intern in 2003 while still a college student and worked his way into other responsibilities. Subsequently, Justin ran Howard University’s student radio station, WHBC 830 AM, as General Manager while interning under WHUR 96.3 FM’s General Manager, Jim Watkins. Justin earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Howard University’s John H. Johnson School of Communications.
